Emory College was founded in Oxford, Georgia in 1836. It was moved to Atlanta in 1919 to become the nucleus of a new research university, but Emory has always maintained its historic Oxford campus as a special place for students who prefer to live and study in a smaller community during their first two years. Today, there are seven buildings around the quad that were constructed before 1900 and are in daily use.
