Overview:
The Arabic program at Emory is under the auspices of the Department of Middle Eastern and South East Asian Studies. Its core faculty consists of five tenured and tenure-track professors, a senior lecturer, and two lecturers. The Arabic program focuses on proficiency-based language instruction and teaches both undergraduate and graduate students, so that they may communicate with others in a wide region extending from North Africa to the borders of Iran and beyond. The Arabic program seeks to achieve two objectives: to train graduate and undergraduate students in Arabic, so that they may use this language in their respective disciplines and to help Emory University to move toward a new strategic emphasis on global studies and internationalization. The Foreign Language Requirement is (2) language courses of (4) credit hours each, or (8) hours total.
