Trying to figure out what major to choose or what career to pursue? Counseling and Career Services offers several options to help you. You can meet individually with a counselor for career counseling and/or career testing. Or you can attend a career workshop (check our Learnlink Conference for scheduling information). To schedule an appointment with a counselor or indicate your interest in attending one of our workshops, call Counseling and Career Services at 4-8394. Counseling and Career Services staff are eager to help you!
If you prefer, you can direct your own search for career information. Self-directed help is available by using the many career-related resources (books, periodicals, etc.) we have housed in our Resource Room. In the comfort of your own room, you can also visit the webpages of the Emory University Career Center and register for Eagle Opportunities Network, Emory's online career management system. Once you register, you can stay aware of their calendar of events, search nationally for jobs and internships, register for upcoming workshops, publish and continually revise your resume for prospective employers, and much more. To register on Eagle Opportunities Network, go to the Emory Career Center webpage, click on "Students," and then on "Eagle Opportunities Network." To log in, students should use their Emory ID# as username and emory as password. For any difficulty, call the Emory Career Center at 404-727-6211 for assistance.
Are you looking now for a job or internship program? Eagle Opportunities Network can help with this search too! By using the Eagle Opportunities Network and submitting a profile, not only can you search an enormous intercollegiate database for job and internship opportunities across the nation, you can also send in your application online to the jobs/internships of your choice! The Emory Career Center website also gives your information about how to create your own internship, how to pursue academic credit for an internship, and more.
Want to learn more about a certain career? Want to see what professions alumni/ae have chosen with a specific major? The Emory Career Network is a database that connects Oxford students with over 2,200 Emory alumni/ae (some of whom are Oxford alums too) who have volunteered to serve as career advisors. (This site is managed by the Emory University Alumni Association.) The alumni/ae represent a wide array of occupational fields. Each will provide interested students information regarding particular careers and their own unique perspectives on job or internship search strategies and the world of work in general. Alumni/ae can be chosen on the basis of their industry, major, state, degree, career field, and student activities participation. Click on this link to access the Emory Career Network; rather than using your ID and password to log in, click below the box on "Register Now" and follow the registration steps to gain access to the database. (E-mail the ECN administrator at ecn@emory.edu if you have difficulty.)
And please take note of all the online services available to you on the Emory Career Center website. There you can learn of workshops, events, and career fairs scheduled on the main campus. And you can also get help composing your resume and cover letter as you apply for jobs or internships. Or you can schedule an appointment with a counselor at Counseling and Career Services here at Oxford who can give you feedback and provide individual assistance with writing your resume and cover letter.
We can readily help you acquire the information you are seeking! If you need additional help accessing any of these resources or getting started in any way on your journey of career exploration, please visit Counseling and Career Services or call 4-8394.
