Student Employment is part of the Oxford College Office of Financial Aid. Student Employment assists Oxford College students with part-time Federal Work-Study and Institutional Work-Ship employment while they are enrolled in school. Employment allows students to gain valuable work experience and is a practical way to contribute to the cost of their education.
Federal Work-StudyFederal Work-Study is an employment program for both undergraduate and graduate students contingent upon availability of federal funds. Eligibility is based on the federal methodology using the information provided on the FAFSA. The amount of your award is the maximum you can earn for the academic year. Students typically work 10 hours per week. The hourly wage for Oxford College students is $7.50 per hour.
Students who are awarded and accept federal work study as a part of their financial aid award will apply for their top five jobs on the Student Employment website . All jobs are subject to approval based on experience for the job that you have chosen. You will not be hired until the G4, W4, I9, and Direct Deposit Authorization Form are completed. These forms are required by the Federal Government and/or Emory University. Students entering Fall 2006 term will not have access to the website until June 1.
All jobs will be assigned on a first come, first served basis. Most departments at Oxford employ work-study students and jobs vary according to the department's needs. Some require specialized skills but most are routine office jobs. You and your supervisor arrange your work schedule each semester after your class schedule is determined.
You will be paid every two weeks depending on the number of hours you worked for the pay period. Work-Study earnings will not appear as a credit on your student account and most students use their earnings as spending money. The money you earn is deposited directly into the bank account you have chosen.
The Student Employment office will notify you when you reach your award maximum. The department you work in has the option of either continuing your assignment and paying you 100% from its departmental budget or ending your assignment altogether.
Oxford Work-Ship
Work-Ship allows a student who does not have Federal Work-Study the opportunity to work an on campus job. Work-Ship students must have a faculty member request him/her for a specific job. Students cannot be hired through work-ship for any type of clerical work. The work-ship student must have a specific skill: tutor, SI Leader, etc.
A work-ship student can work up to 5 hours per week or totaling 10 hours per pay period. SI Leaders receive 7 hours since some of their time may be spent in the class. All students are paid $7.50 per hour and are paid biweekly.
