Connecting To The Network

Every residence hall room has one network port per student, one telephone jack, and one cable TV jack. Therefore each room occupant will have their own personal network connection, but will have to share the phone and cable TV connections.

The wall plate unit provides residents the ability to have a room phone, cable television, and wired networking to connect their computers and gaming devices. Oxford College provides free Ethernet and cable television service for campus residents, but phone service must be requested, and a monthly charge is assessed.

The Oxford College Residential Network (ResNet), is a secure data network found in the residential halls that provides students connections to the Emory network via the wired Ethernet and wireless network called Emory Unplugged. To connect to ResNet, follow these instructions for the initial connection. Since multiple, whole computer security scans are necessary before allowing a network connection, this initial connection requires significant time.

Steps For connecting to the wired network

If you are unable to connect your computer to the residential network (ResNet) yourself (instructions above), please bring your computer to the Oxford College Information Technology CleanRoom in the Jolley Residential Center lobby for assistance. Please visit the cleanroom site to see the requirements for this service.

Connecting Game Consoles and PDAs

Game consoles, personal digital assistants, iPhones and other non-workstation networking devices and their MAC addresses must be manually added by an IT technician to the Emory network before they can communicate. Please bring your device to the Clean Room for this procedure. However, non educational devices have a lower priority when multiple students are being served.

Do I Need My Own Telephone Set?
