Purpose:

The Oxford Staff Organization (OSO) should bring together ALL campus staff on a regular basis for the purpose of:

  1. Giving voice to all staff members of Oxford College with Oxford faculty, the Oxford Dean and Dean's Council, the greater Oxford/Covington community, and the greater Emory community
  2. Enhancing communication across departments
  3. Insuring the dissemination of pertinent information to all Oxford staff members
  4. Providing peer support for all Oxford staff members
  5. Welcoming new staff members and acquainting them with the greater Oxford community
  6. Promoting professional development opportunities
  7. Reporting on matters related to the University Employee Council and University Senate

Staff Handbook 2008-2009

 

 

Position Descriptions:


1. Vice-Chair, Chair-Elect: This person should be elected for a one-year term and will assist the OSO Chair during that year to prepare for taking over the chair position in the following year.  The Chair-Elect will also be the official meeting minute taker of both the executive board meetings and general OSO meetings. The Chair-Elect will also update the OSO website as needed.  

2. Treasurer: This person should be elected for a one-year term and may be reelected for up to one additional term.  They should be responsible for keeping track of attendance at meetings and events, as well as tracking expenditures. The treasurer will also help the Executive Board submit at Budget Proposal each year.  
 
3. Social/Welcoming Committee Chair: The chair will organize and lead the work of the committee. Duties include:

  •  
    • Assign monthly birthday parties to offices around campus and work with them to carry out the event
    • Plan staff Secret Santa game and Holiday party
    • Organize Summer Lunch Bunch
    • Assemble Welcome baskets for all new staff, which should include information about the OSO, the staff handbook and other appropriate items
    • Plan fundraisers for both the Oxford Chaplaincy Fund & Flower Fund
    • Order food for OSO general meetings

Other duties as determined or developed by the committee  

4. 6 positions on the Staff Advisory and Development Committee:

The duties of this committee are:

  •  
    • Work and communicate with Director of Human Resources at Oxford to represent staff needs
    • To represent the interests of the staff on matters of administrative and personnel policy and to advise the Dean, as appropriate
    • Organize community service projects for Oxford staff
    • Serve as liaison with Emory staff volunteer program to insure Oxford's participation
  •  
    • Keep staff abreast of professional development funding opportunities and keep track of all professional development events attended by staff on a yearly basis
    • Staff Recognition
    • Responsible for maintaining a current staff handbook
    • To assist in the orientation of new staff members especially as to administrative and personnel policy
    • Other duties as determined or developed by the committee

Example of duties:  Organizing and communicating concerns about lack of health-care providers in Newton County. 

*The committee shall consist of six members elected by the OSO at the first meeting of each year.  No two members should report to the same supervisor, dean or department head.
