SURE Summer Research Program
Summer Research at Oxford College - The SURE-Oxford Program 2008
The SURE-Oxford program, an extension of Emory University’s Summer Undergraduate Research at Emory (SURE) program, is funded by the Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI). The HHMI grant will support summer undergraduate research at Oxford through the SURE program from 2007-2010. Dr. Nitya Jacob, Associate Professor of Biology, is the Director of the SURE-Oxford program. In the SURE-Oxford program, students work for 10 weeks in the summer as researchers on the Oxford campus with Oxford faculty involved in research with biological or biomedical emphasis. The SURE-Oxford students also participate in the larger SURE program on the main campus by attending weekly career mentoring and ethics sessions, and competing in the final poster competition.
This summer six Oxford students, Dusty Cawthon, Allen Chiang, Lyndsey Davis, Ambreen Dharani, Zachary Hudson, and Nathan Bart Reeder were selected for the SURE program. Oxford faculty, Dr. Jack Eichler, Dr. Jasmin Hutchinson, and Dr. Todd Sherman participated as mentors. Two students, Allen Chiang and Ambreen Dharani, worked with Emory College faculty mentors. Below is a list of the studies performed in SURE 2008. Each work was presented as a poster at the end of the SURE program. Zachary Hudson received the “Honorable Mention” award for his poster.
