Oxford Slips by West Georgia Tech College 64 to 60January 19, 2011
The Eagles of Oxford Emory barely slipped past the West Georgia Technical College Golden Knights by a score of 64-60. From the onset of the game, it was evident that this was going to be a close contest. Despite only having 5 players, West Georgia Technical College was able to get out to a fast start and built an early 14 point advantage in the first half 25 to 11. Oxford stormed back to tie it 27 all at halftime after going on a 16 to 2 run to finish the first half. In the second half, the Eagles extended the lead to seven points with 8 minutes to go but were not able to increase and break open the game. West Georgia's J. Broadax hit a clutch 3 pointer with 30 seconds to go to cut the lead to one before Caesar Anyogu calmly sank two free throws to seal the victory. Oxford's Jorge Menocal ended the game with a double-double 16 points, 13 rebounds, while Caesar Anyogu added 15 points, 4 rebounds, and 2 assists. West Georgia's Byron Williams lead all scorers with an impressive 26 points and 17 rebounds. Oxford now improves to 5 and 11 on the year and looks forward to playing Anderson University JV on Thursday, January 20, in Anderson, SC. Tip off time is scheduled for 7:00pm.
