Emory's 22nd President Christopher L. Augostini Visits Oxford College

On September 21, Emory’s 22nd president, Christopher L. Augostini, visited Oxford College to immerse himself in our unique campus community.
Since stepping into his role, President Augostini has emphasized that "trust is built through intentional engagement, consistent leadership and shared action. Most importantly, it's recognized that Emory’s greatest strength has always been its people." That philosophy came to life the moment he arrived; as he walked across the quad and made his way to the Oxford Science Building to meet with Dean Molly McGehee 03G 07PhD and Oxford leadership, the campus was already alive with students heading to class, stopping by Coffee Camper, or heading to the library to study before the busy day ahead of them.
That engagement extended right into Candler Hall, where he connected with a wide variety of student organizations, including student ambassadors, student leaders and Woodruff Scholars. President Augostini took the time to ask these student leaders directly about their personal goals, future aspirations, and the everyday challenges they face navigating college life. This conversation directly mirrored his vision for student experience and success, proving that leadership at Emory values listening to the student body.
For President Augostini, hearing directly from students, faculty, and staff about how Oxford balances rigorous academics with a tight-knit community and strong student support was more than policy or planning; it showed the campus was living out the vision set forth within the Oxford Strategic Plan. During his stop at the dining hall, the president chatted with staff, faculty, and members of the Emory Police Department (EPD) and even tested the soft-serve ice cream machine amongst the students. There, he saw firsthand the genuine, everyday connections that define Oxford College. Already looking forward to returning to Oxford in the next few months, President Augostini said he was struck by its rich history, lively student body, and dedicated community, as he is every time he visits the Oxford campus. The visit highlighted a vibrant environment where academic excellence, experiential learning, and meaningful personal relationships are essential to the Oxford experience.
