Center for Academic Excellence

The Center for Academic Excellence (CAE) is an important resource for the Oxford College faculty, providing a focus on faculty development. The center is a nexus for the advancement of Oxford’s signature excellence in innovative teaching and learning in the first two years of undergraduate education and supports the college’s emphases on leadership and critical inquiry.

Programs and services of the CAE include seminars on the scholarship of teaching and learning, assessment of specific courses across the curriculum, and partnerships with faculty and programs in other divisions of Emory University and beyond.

Every year Oxford faculty, staff and administrators collaborate to select a set of specific programs, initiatives and services for the CAE. The CAE staff also work with individual faculty on course support, pedagogical research and mentoring.

The CAE organizes and hosts Oxford’s teaching institute, the Institute for Pedagogy in the Liberal Arts (IPLA), which draws scholars of teaching and learning from across the region.

Get Inspired
The Center for Academic Excellence organizes the Institute for Pedagogy in the Liberal Arts (IPLA) each spring. This four-day professional-development conference aims to inspire creativity and foster effective teaching in the liberal arts. The format consists of successive two-day sessions where participants focus on new ideas to refresh and expand their teaching.
