Michael Silverio has long embodied the best of Oxford College’s values—connection, leadership, generosity, and lifelong devotion to community. A proud graduate of Oxford College (Class of 1998) and Emory College (Class of 2000), Michael has spent decades giving back to the institution that shaped him. His commitment is not symbolic—it is active, sustained, and deeply personal.
Michael’s impact reached new heights during his tenure as President of the Oxford College Alumni Board (OCAB) from Fall 2021 to Fall 2023, a period of remarkable growth and transformation. Guiding the board during and emerging from the challenges of the pandemic, he infused OCAB with renewed energy, relevance, and purpose. Under his leadership, the board experienced extraordinary expansion—welcoming nearly 20 new members—a direct result of Michael’s vision for a more inclusive, engaged, and diverse alumni community. He championed and personally led highly successful virtual recruitment sessions, opening the door for alumni across the country to reconnect with Oxford.
Michael’s leadership was equally defined by his emphasis on philanthropy. Through encouragement, modeling, and relationship-building, he fostered a culture in which nearly 100% of OCAB members participated in giving for two consecutive years—an unprecedented achievement. He amplified Oxford participation in major Emory initiatives, inspiring alumni to serve as ambassadors for 2O36 Giving Week and the Emory Day of Giving, significantly raising visibility and engagement.
As Oxford’s student body grew and alumni ranks expanded to a record 16,750 engaged alumni, Michael worked intentionally to bridge generations. He leveraged platforms such as LinkedIn to connect with younger alumni, attended events to strengthen relationships, and ensured that Oxford’s voice remained strong within the broader Emory ecosystem. His service also extended beyond Oxford, including contributions on the Emory Alumni Leadership Board DEI Task Force and meaningful involvement with Emory’s Presidents’ Club and President’s Circle.
A gifted communicator with a vibrant online presence, Michael used creative and humorous social media engagement to energize the alumni community—earning an unofficial “gold medal” for creativity. His leadership went far beyond traditional service: he initiated new events such as the Top Golf alumni gathering in Spring 2022, complete with coaching tips from Oxford’s golf coach, and served on reunion committees for both his 20th and 25th reunions.
Despite balancing a demanding professional career and family life as a husband and father of two—including his daughter Mia, who will proudly join Oxford’s Class of 2028 (entering Fall 2026)—Michael showed up for Oxford again and again. From New Student Orientation to Emory Homecoming, he remained a constant, enthusiastic presence, greeting students, supporting staff, and demonstrating what lifelong devotion to Oxford truly looks like.
Most notably, Michael led by example in legacy giving. By making his own planned gift to Oxford for student support, he became one of the youngest members of Emory’s prestigious 1836 Society, ensuring that the opportunities Oxford gave him will remain accessible for generations to come.
