Mr. Rod Stubbs
Rod Stubbs, the recipient of the Outstanding Staff Award, has left an indelible mark as the Athletic Director and Head Men's Basketball Coach for the Center for Healthful Living at Oxford College since 2005.
Introduced as the Athletic Director in June 2013, Stubbs has seamlessly combined his leadership roles, overseeing and supervising all nine varsity sports teams, managing budgets, and ensuring compliance with eligibility requirements. As the 4th Head Coach in Oxford College basketball history since August 1, 2005, Stubbs has led the team to unprecedented success, boasting over 236 wins as of the 2021-2022 season.
Under Stubbs' guidance, the Eagles reached the sweet 16 of the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) in 2006 and the tournament's round of 32 in 2007. Notably, the 2012-2013 team set a school record with a 23-8 record, and the Eagles secured the Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association (GCAA) regular-season championship four times. In 2016, they clinched their first GCAA tournament championship.
Stubbs has garnered accolades as the GCAA Region 17 Coach of the Year in 2014 and 2016. His coaching prowess is further evident in cultivating eight NJCAA All-Americans and 25 all-region performers. Moreover, his teams consistently excel academically, with the 2020 team earning the national academic team of the year for its sport.
Beyond the basketball court, Stubbs' commitment extends to community service. He received the Emory University Award of Distinction in 2016 and was honored as one of the most outstanding Men of Newton County in October 2021 for his service and mentorship.
With a rich history at Morehouse College as a player and coach, Stubbs brings a wealth of experience to Oxford. An All-State performer at Jackson Central-Merry High School, he entered Morehouse in 1988, achieving success both on and off the court. Capturing four SIAC Divisional Titles and earning a Bachelor's degree in Management in 1992, Stubbs continued to excel, obtaining a Master's in Sports Administration from Georgia State University in 1995.
Stubbs' legacy extends beyond his professional achievements, making him a deserving recipient of the Outstanding Staff Award at Oxford College.
