The OxHub: Exploring Our Outdoor Rec Program

The Oxford College Outdoor Recreation Program (ORP) gives students the chance to try different outdoor activities, like kayaking and rock climbing at Central Rock Gym. This program is for everyone, whether you have lots of experience or are just starting out. It’s a great way to stay active, meet new people, and step outside the classroom for fun challenges and adventures.
Oxford College launched its Outdoor Recreation Program (ORP), which includes activities ranging from kayaking to rock climbing at Central Rock Gym. The program provides a wide variety of outdoor activities, whether you're experienced or new to some of these activities.
When Jose Cueva 16Ox 18C became the Assistant Director of Campus Recreation, he pitched these ideas outside of the classroom and off campus. By the Fall of 2024, the program officially launched and grew in popularity. ORP started with one monthly trip, quickly increasing to two or three by spring 2025.
Student response has been overwhelmingly positive. “These classes motivated me to move my body and exercise in new and different ways than I am used to.”
As these trips are in high demand, students are encouraged to register as soon as possible. Spots quickly fill up, and students are often placed on a waitlist.
There's never been a better time to get involved and enjoy all that the ORP has to offer. "My advice to students considering joining the Outdoor Recreation Program is, please do not be afraid about signing up for a trip! There is a type of enjoyment that you get from being off-campus and relieving your brain from the rigors of school, even just for a few hours. You will not regret it." says Brandon Rabanales 26Ox.
