As a Georgia native and aspiring physician, Lily is thrilled to shadow both medical assistants and physicians at Northside Family Medicine and Weightloss.
“This work plays into my intended career path as a physician because I get to both shadow the MA and physician that I work with to gain clarity of their various responsibilities and ensure this is the path for me, as well as involve myself in experiences that prepare me for future opportunities volunteering or working in healthcare fields,” she explains.
While Lily does not necessarily treat patients, she is grateful to learn the “humanity” behind medical practice. In fact, she feels that the most rewarding part of this experience is “getting to comfort [patients] when stressed and when taking their vitals,” by talking to them about their “concerns, or life in general.”
Still, Lily appreciates her ability to learn from her managers.
“My favorite moment was when I was first practicing how to take blood pressure manually by doing it on the office manager and she confirmed I was right after taking it herself moments after! It felt very encouraging that slowly but surely, I was getting the hang of these new medical procedures and it wasn’t as scary as I once thought.”
